The 1996 Summer Olympics did for Atlanta what the Beatles did for rock ‘n’ roll.  What Facebook did for online socializing.  What Jersey Shore did for MTV.  (Okay, maybe not.)

In short, the Olympics were revolutionary.  It put Atlanta on the map, bringing worldwide attention to our city, turned Downtown around, and gave the park that is now appropriately named Centennial Park an extreme makeover, turning the area into a true tourist destination. And, for the record, our precious city was chosen to host the Games of the XXVI Olympiad over Athens (that’s Greece, not Georgia, Dawgs fans), Manchester, Melbourne and Toronto.  Cue: pat on the back.

This is why we’ve chosen the 1996 Summer Olympics as the first theme for our Person, Place & Thing Twitter contest.  Starting at 10 a.m. on Thursday, October 28th, join GK|CRE on Twitter (handle: @GKCRE) and start guessing which Olympics-related person, place or thing we’re thinking about.  Read the contest “rules” HERE.

The winners (3 of you!) will each receive a $25 gift certificate to Parish!

Happy Guessing!  And, GO USA!
