What are you doing on Thursday night?!  If you answered “hopefully seeing great art in one of Atlanta’s most historic homes, eating sweet and savory southern snacks, and taking part in a cool educational experience” then we’ll see you at The Sidewalk Art Project – Gallery Show.

Sidewalk Radio, in creative partnership with SCAD Atlanta, is hosting a gallery opening at the Atlanta Preservation Center on Thursday June 21st showcasing original works of art created by a select group of SCAD’s very best.

For this cutting edge gallery show each student has prepared a piece of visual art inspired by an episode of Sidewalk Radio. Using various mediums from photography, to painting, to printmaking, to sculpture, each student has been given free interpretation for his or her work.

The show will be juried by some of Atlanta’s most noteworthy art patrons, producers, and critics, and the artist who takes “Best in Show” will be a featured radio guest for this month’s Sidewalk Radio show all about arts education.

Come celebrate and support local artists, education, preservation, and one of Atlanta’s newest creative partnerships.

From Brett Osborn's Paris Hilton series

Come check out Kai Lin Art this Friday as terra opens, a new exhibition featuring local painters Brett Osborn and Alexi Torres.

Brett is the Dean of the School of Fine Arts at SCAD and will show his Paris Hilton series (or “things she should have been doing to become this famous,” as he puts it) and his “Homework Landscapes.”

Alexi, who is originally from Cuba, approaches his art with an awareness of his personal history and that of the worlds.  In his words, “I still find myself in each painting and I am aware of creating a necessary message: which is to be conscious of living, critical thinking, and feeling art.’

The opening runs from 7 to 10 at 3096 Roswell Rd in Buckhead.

PS.  If you get out a little early consider grabbing a slice from Pie Shop.  The Hood prefers the Savory Sweet Potato Pie, but the menu changes so don’t hold him to availability.
